Estimation of the Ocean/Atmosphere Eloundary Layer Height of Water Vapor from Space - Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 1996. IGARSS '96. 'Remote Sensing for a Sustainable Futur

چکیده
A new retrieval technique has been developed which resolves some of the vertical structure of lower tropospheric water vapor over Oceans from space. 'The relationship is demonstrated by comparisons between direct measurements of the water vapor profile, by radiosondes, and coincident estimates of the horizontal turbulence structure of Integrated Water Vapor, wing the TOPEX Microwave Radiometer (TMR). Correlation is highest between the turbulence structure and the lower, boundary layer, component of the water vapor profile. The relationship is next applied to a two year time series of TMR data at Wake Island in the tropical Pacific. EIoth TMR and the Wake Island radiosondes indicate a periodic variation in the water vapor height which is consistent with the Madden and Julian Oscillation (MJO).

REDUCING THE EFFECTS OF SPACE-VARYING WAVELENGTH-DEPENDENT SCATTERING IN MULTISPECTRAL IMAGERY - Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 1996. IGARSS '96. 'Remote Sensing for a Sustainable Futur
A new method for reducing space-varying, wavelength-dependent scattering in multispectral imagery caused by smoke and haze is described. It is intended for use in situations where atmospheric scattering affects the shorter wavelengths and varies in space. The method converts an image in which space-varying scattering is present into an image where the scattering has been equalized over the enti...

This study presents an original method to detect edges in Synthetic Aperture Radar images corrupted by speckle. We show that the Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) allows to accurately detect edges embedded in speckle. Edges give rise to a conic signature in the CWT. Furthermore, the Signal t o Noise Ratio (SNR) increases with the scale of the CWT. The optimal wavelet maximizing the SNR is deri...
متن کاملDetail-Preserving Segmentation of Polarimetric SAR Imagery - Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 1996. IGARSS '96. 'Remote Sensing for a Sustainable Futur
Polarimetric SAR data help researchers understand and quantify the scattering properties of natural scenes, and their variability under different conditions, better than single polarization SAR data. In this paper, we propose two detailpreserving segmentation algorithms for multiband images and evaluate their performance using real multi-frequency multipolarization SAR complex data. Adaptive ne...
متن کاملLABORATORY STUDY OF THE FINE STRUCTURE OF BREAKING WAVES FOR SCATTEROMETRY APPLICATIONS - Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 1996. IGARSS '96. 'Remote Sensing for a Sustainable Futur
Laboratory measurements of the fine space-time structure of short gravity-capillary waves, as well as Ku-band scattering at grazing and moderate incidence from spilling and plunging breaking waves in a wave channel are presented. Unsteady breaking waves are generated by focusing the waves in space and time. A scanning laser slope gauge was used for measuring short waves of wavelength 0.2-20cm, ...

Danish polarimetric SAR data have been applied t o estimate soil moisture (SM). The preliminary results evaluated with the Land C-band SAR dat,a acquired at the Danish test site Foulum during a number of missions in 1994 and 1995 are presented. In situ data have been collected during the SAR missions and the variations of SM at field scale are discussed. The Integral Equation El]. In addition, ...
